Kid business safety and a parent checklist

Updated October 17, 2026. A planning list for families. It does not replace local rules or your own judgment.

A curb route stays close to home, which is why families consider it as a kid business. Close is not the same as careless. The parent decides the streets, the customers, and whether the week’s walk happens. The child does the cans they can actually move.

The parent holds the account

BinBoss is built so a child does not sign up alone. A parent, guardian, teacher, or scout leader holds the login. For anyone under 13, consent comes before they use the app. There is no kid-only signup, and BinBoss is not an ad product for children. The privacy page is still a draft. It will be replaced before the app charges for a subscription.

Put the parent’s phone or email on any flyer. Do not print a child’s number, school, or photo.

Before the first customer

  • The parent has met the household, or already knows them.
  • You have walked the path from the can’s spot to the curb in daylight.
  • You know the collection day from the city or hauler, not from a guess.
  • You have agreed what “done” means: out, back, or both, and where the can returns.
  • Dogs, gates, and steps are written down.
  • The kid can tip and roll that size of can. If not, the parent does the heavy ones or you do not take the stop.

On the route

  • Stay off the street while a collection truck is working the block. Go before it arrives, and come back after it has left.
  • Do not climb into a can, reach into the trash, or open bags.
  • Do not go inside a house or garage. The work is outside.
  • Skip cracked, overflowing, or unstable cans and tell the customer.
  • Closed shoes and gloves. A lid that looks shut can still drip.
  • If it is dark, icy, or storming, the parent cancels. A missed week is better than a fall.
  • One route the kid can finish. Adding streets “while you’re out” is how a stop gets skipped.

Money

The child can hand a neighbor the agreed price and say thank you. The parent keeps the record and holds the cash until it is counted. BinBoss does not take a share of that money. Do not ask a child to chase a late payment alone. The parent follows up.

Checklist

These boxes stay on this page in your browser. BinBoss does not save them.
